Publishing Services

Self publishing for scholarly and scientific societies and institutions

Adding value to publishers' content

P.S. Publishing Services was established by Charlesworth in 2008 to meet an identified need in the publishing market, from peer review to final print and online deliverables.

We can help add value to content by managing a full package of publishing services, enabling publishers to focus on their core activities. Pick and mix from our range of services or opt for a fully managed package. UK or overseas outsourcing is available.

A snapshot of what we do:

We recognise that not all papers for publication require the same level of attention and so we can offer a range of solutions, for example UK or China based copy-editing. Rates reflect the level of work required.

Further Information

Specialised Copy-editing
A range of copy-editing services is available covering an extensive range of scientific disciplines. Detailed copy-editing is provided by native English speaking editors qualified at least to degree level in the subject that they are editing. This service can be used in conjunction with our typesetting services, or independently.

Project Management
The Group offers full Project Management services in the UK and in China, including management of editorial elements such as copy-editing; liaison with editorial staff; and the checking of proofs and standing material to ensure that material intended for publication is produced in accordance with journal style, budget and schedule. These services will be of particular benefit to independent societies seeking support with managing their publication activities. Charlesworth can take on every aspect of production and publishing management from receipt of copy through to print distribution and warehousing, and/or the despatch of electronic files to online hosting platforms; we can also provide tailored marketing and publishing consultancy.

Our editorial and project management services include copy-editing; checking of proofs before despatch at each stage; management of proofing to authors/editorial staff; management of the author correction cycle; liaison with external editorial staff and authors; schedule coordination; preparation of standing material/front- and back-matter; coordination of advertisement inclusion; internal and external liaison with typesetting and printing facilities as necessary.

For publishers or societies requiring print project management, this service can also be offered in our UK or China offices.

Mailing & Fulfilment
Charlesworth offers fulfilment and mailing services plus secure warehousing, storage and management of back issues.

Publishing Consultancy
Experienced staff are always on hand to provide advice and consultancy when required, without the need to lock-in to a full publishing contract.

Rewriting and Language Polishing
We are now launching a rewriting and language polishing service tailored to the needs of non-native English speaking academics, with the ultimate aim of making their Scientific texts acceptable for submission to English language STM publications. The service builds on our existing expertise and knowledge of the academic sector in China, gained through our 10-year presence there.

Our particular focus is on servicing the needs of academics within China. Scientific texts written by non-native English speaking authors will be analysed by native English speakers with experience of the subject area in which the papers are based. Our editors will, as a result, 'polish' the language in any given text, enhance the fluency and readability of what has been written, and allow the scientific content to shine through. Any spelling, expressions or phrases that do not conform to what is accepted as standard English will be corrected or re-drafted.
